In recent months, you have probably noticed the spiritual and numerical growth occurring at MCC of Greater St. Louis. Along with this growth have come increased opportunities to share God’s love with the greater St. Louis community. Because of our call to respond in faith to these many opportunities, we believed the time had come to leave our current rented facility and, once again, purchase a church building of our own. The capital campaign is our focused effort to step out in faith and raise the funds to renovate this building, which we have purchased.
Why is the theme Building Together: A Place to Call Home?
We wanted a theme that would capture the spirit of what we are trying to accomplish at MCC of Greater St. Louis as we reach out to those who still need a church home – a home where every person is welcome and affirmed. For all of us, MCC of Greater St. Louis is where we have already been blessed by finding our place to belong. Now we give generously so that others may find a place to call home. Together, we will continue building far into the future – building physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
What will the renovated building include?
The facility, located at 1919 South Broadway, is a 22,000 square foot office/worship space in the heart of the Soulard neighborhood. Our plans for renovation include a fully accessible, state-of-the-art worship space, with additional areas for education, meeting rooms, offices, parking, and the “One St. Louis Resource Center/Hope& Help Center.”
What is the cost?
The cost to purchase this building was $1.3 million. Additionally, the estimated cost to renovate the worship space is $1.6 million and to renovate the remainder of the facility is $400,000. Because MCC of Greater St. Louis had $500,000 available to put toward the purchase and renovation, our remaining need is $2.8 million. Funds raised through the Building Together: A Place to Call Home campaign will be used to renovate the building and pay down our loan balances.
Will I be asked to make a pledge?
Most importantly, we want everyone involved to fully understand and embrace what we are doing, and why. Because of this, through prayer and study, we will spend time seeking God’s direction for our personal giving. Only after concluding this part of the journey will anyone be asked to consider participating financially.
What is the timeline of this campaign?
These estimates of giving are for three years, and are over and above regular giving to support the ongoing ministries and outreach of MCC of Greater St. Louis. We began the process on November 2nd, 2008, on Celebration Sunday. The campaign will continue through the end of 2011.
How should I determine how much to give?
Pray for God’s guidance and listen for God’s voice and prompting as you participate in the campaign. Remember: God does not ask for equal giving, but equal sacrifice.
