Sunday Worship

10:30a

Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Saint Louis holds one Sunday morning worship service.

Generally, people dress casually. Communion is celebrated weekly. At all MCC churches around the globe we celebrate an open communion which means that anyone is welcome to the table. You do not have to be a member of our church or any church to partake of the generous gifts of God. We offer a short prayer of blessing for those who desire it after they consume the communion elements of bread and juice.

Our worship tends to be eclectic, drawing from the rich religious heritage of our members and friends. We, at MCC, unlike other denominations have an incredible diversity of religious backgrounds in one place worshipping one God. You quickly will sense that while some parts of worship will be familiar, other parts of worship will be markedly different from your church of origin. It is one of the challenges and blessings of being from so many denominations and religious traditions.

MCC of Greater St. Louis's Philosophy of Worship:

Worship should be a dynamic, positive experience in which people are nurtured, challenged and empowered. We believe in the power of diverse expressions of worship that utilize all the senses in glorifying God. We are called to stretch our comfort zones and experience a variety of worship styles. Worship is a corporate act. We gather as the body of Christ to praise God and experience the rites and sacraments of the church as acts of worship. Worship is symbolic and our theology is expressed through words, music, movement and visual symbols. We strive for excellence in worship. We want to proclaim the gospel with confidence, consistency and through movement. Mutuality is a philosophical value of worship. We believe in the priesthood of all believers. It is the faith of the community that consecrates the communion elements not the person who tells the story. The role of clergy staff is to guide, empower and equip all people for worship. We believe that worship has the power to convey the immediate presence of God to the community. We believe that we, the church, are instruments of God’s love to one another.

Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC) around the world reach out to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Communities to communicate the power of God's unconditional love. MCC of Greater Saint Louis (MCCGSL), as a welcoming and affirming Christian community, opens it doors to all of God's children and seeks to equip all for ministry to our troubled world. As an open and affirming church, we have members of every imaginable denominational background, who worship, learn and grow together in Christian faith.

We strive for our Christian church community to reflect the diversity of God’s creation. We wish for our church congregation to be a microcosm of the larger St. Louis community in its demographic make up of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and culture. MCCGSL provides a safe environment to explore what the Bible says regarding homosexuality and what it does not say. The Bible has been used to condemn homosexuality thereby excluding some of God’s beloved children from God’s table. Many of us grew up in religious environments that, because of our sexual orientation or gender identity, oppressed and condemned us.

But we believe that every person is created in God’s image and likeness. MCC of Greater St. Louis seeks to share the liberating and life-giving message of Christ with our larger St. Louis community. If you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning these facets of your identity, we welcome and affirm you. Or, if you simply believe that God loves all people equally regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, you also are welcome to worship with us!
